What can cryptography do?
You probably think of cryptography as a way to keep secrets; for example, your online credentials. But it is also a powerful way to share information in a way that prevents anyone from modifying it later.
The world of cryptography revolves around so-called “one-way functions” which produce something called a “hash” of a bit of electronically stored information. It is very unlikely for two inputs to produce the exact same output (a “hash collision”), and because it is based on a very large sequence that repeats itself after a very long time in an unpredictable way, it can be nearly impossible to figure out which input produced a certain output without expending a lot of energy.
Cryptography is the “secret” behind blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and all online security. Let me help you explore what it can do for you!
